Developing experts who apply science in lifestyles

Occupational therapists communicate with various people who are struggling due to physical or emotional slumps, and support them to live the way they ought to. The Department of Occupational Therapy provides medical knowledge, together with specialized knowledge and techniques necessary for occupational therapy, through lectures, on-campus training and e-learning while also offering practical training opportunities to students from their freshman year. In their senior year, students go to hospitals and institutions of diverse fields for working experience. Furthermore, some occupational therapists in Japan and from abroad are invited as guest lecturers to expand students' perspectives in pursuing new dimensions for occupational therapy. Occupational therapists deal with highly diversified settings, including acute phases and recovery phases of hospital patients, and rehabilitation in facilities, local communities and homes of patients. Therefore, SPU fosters scientific and analytical thinking skills, creativity and flexibility so students will become experts in applying science to lifestyles with problem-solving capabilities and global perspectives after graduation.
